Introduction of Associate Degree / Pre-Associate Degree programme

  • Associate Degree originated from the US and in Year 2000 was introduced in Hong Kong and it is a relatively new initiative in the higher education in Hong Kong. Associate Degree can be categorized as:
    • 2 Year Programme : Admisson of Form 7 graduates or equivalent qualifications OR
    • 3 Year Programme: Admission of Form 5 graduates or equivalent qualifications.
  • Associate degrees take a more flexible approach where students will study general education subjects as well as their specialized areas. Logical thinking, problem solving, communication skills are pre-requisites for successful in the business world.
  • Students who cannot either enter into the first choice university or first choice programme. The Associate Degree programme allows students to articulate to universities’ Bachelor’s Degree programme and they can apply via non-JUPAS upon the completion of Associate Degree programme.
  • Associate Degree is initiated from US and Higher Diploma is initiated from UK. Both are qualified for entry to bachelor's degree programmes but Higher Diploma is preparing students for immediate employment and Associate Degree programme aims to prepare students for further studies before employment.
