1. What are the differences between an Associate Degree and a Higher Diploma?

A: AD and HD qualifications are recognized to be of the same level. Generally speaking, AD programmes expose students to general education courses in addition to specialization courses, while HD programmes focus on specialized disciplines and are often vocation-oriented.

 

2. How does CUTW differ from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (SCPS)?

A: CUTW specializes in the provision of Pre-Associate and Associate Degree programmes, while SCPS offers HD programmes, short courses and other sub-degree programmes.

 

3. If I do not meet the minimum entry requirements, will my application still be considered?

A: Applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements may apply for admission to CUTW. Applications made to CUTW are considered on an individual basis. Other than open examination results, students' school results and achievements in other non-academic areas will also be taken into account during the selection process.

 

4. Can Pre-AD graduates or AD students from other institutions apply to the AD programmes of CUTW?

A: Yes. Applicants' results and qualifications attained from other institutions will be considered against the admission requirements and structures of the programmes being applied for at CUTW.

 

5. What are the admission requirements for students from the Mainland?

A: On top of meeting the minimum entry requirements, an accepted level of proficiency in English and Chinese would also be expected. Applicants who do not meet the language requirement but fulfill other admission criteria may be required to take a top-up language course during their study at CUTW.

 

6. Will students from the Mainland China be offered any special assistance?

A: Applicants are expected to be able to financially support themselves throughout the programmes. The College will provide the accepted non-local students with all the necessary documents to help them to apply for a visa / entry permit from the HKSAR government.

The College in collaboration with the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, a wide choice of quality accommodation is offered for lease to non-local students. Further information is available at http://www.tungwah.org.hk/properties/properties-r-e.html .

Academic and personal counseling services and an orientation programme will also be available to non-local students to help them enjoy a happy student life at the College and in Hong Kong.

 

7. In what ways is studying a Pre-AD or AD programme a better option than repeating Secondary 5 or 7?

A: As opposed to going through the same syllabus and re-taking examinations, students now have the options of studying Pre-AD and AD programmes characterized by their inspiring and interactive teaching and learning. The new courses and environment will help stimulate students' motivation and interest in learning and also, since the College adopts university teaching modes and timetables, students have a head start of acquiring the learning and time management skills needed for further studies at university level.

 

8. How is the prospect of graduates of AD programmes?

A: AD graduates will have the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for further studies at university level locally or overseas, or to start pursuing their careers in both the private and public sector. Holders of accredited AD qualifications are eligible to apply for civil or non-civil service positions with entry requirements set at AD level.
