School Head's Message

CUTW is the only community college in Hong Kong that provides programmes in Chinese medicine and health care at present. We are confident in launching the programmes for a number of reasons. Firstly, the programmes have inherited the rich experience in Chinese medicine from both The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Secondly, Chinese medicine, which has become increasingly popular, has a profound effect in the prevention and management of common and elderly diseases as well as enhancing the survival quality. And in view of the aging population in Hong Kong, Chinese medicine is playing an increasingly important role in the scene of health care in the territory. Thirdly, as Chinese medicine is being gradually introduced to the public medical system, job opportunities in Chinese medicine are expected to be significantly increased in the near future.

We hope that the varieties in our programmes can suit the different needs of students, and the modern medicine subjects covered will help students' articulation to science- and medical service-related bachelor degree programmes at universities.” From 2005 onwards, 9 of our Year 2 students (30%) have articulated or to be articulated into local universities (including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University) whereas the other 7 students (25%) have articulated into mainland universities to pursue their study of bachelor degree of Chinese medicine. Meanwhile, 2 of our Year 1 students will be articulated into The University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University respectively.

The Life Science programme is supported by Department of Biology and Department of Biochemistry, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. We strive to provide our students with the highest teaching quality of life science. Our outstanding graduates will be articulated into the second year of life science programmes in local universities.

With a team of devoted academic staff to delivery quality education and add a human touch to teaching, our programmes are well-received from the students since they were first launched two years ago. We welcome all enthusiastic youngsters of Chinese medicine and life science to join us. We are committed: making our best of the best.
